Re-elected to the School Board on Nov. 8, 2011, Thomas J. Doland represents the Matoaca District. He also served on the School Board 2004-2007.
Mr. Doland retired in 2003 after 32 years as a school psychologist for Chesterfield County Public Schools, the last 15 as supervisor of school psychologists. He currently teaches developmental psychology as an adjunct faculty member at John Tyler Community College. He also spent many years as a licensed contractor.
Mr. Doland is passionate about ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff members. He helped organize and train crisis teams in every school, has worked with anti-bullying programs and served on the School Health Advisory Board. He served on the Chesterfield County Emergency Services Committee for more than a decade and believes in a community-based approach to safe schools.
Mr. Doland and his wife, Linda, have been Matoaca District residents for 37 years, and their five children attended Chesterfield County Public Schools. They now have nine grandchildren. They are members of the Clover Hill Assembly of God.

Elected to the School Board on Nov. 8, 2011, Dianne H. Smith represents the Clover Hill District.
Mrs. Smith worked in Chesterfield County Public Schools for more than 30 years, serving as a classroom teacher, reading teacher, assistant principal and principal. At the central administrative level, she served as the school system’s assistant director of human resources and director of leadership, where she designed the first leadership model for school division administrators. In June 2011, she retired as principal of Winterpock Elementary School. In addition, Mrs. Smith is co-owner of a small wedding planning and coordinating business.
A graduate of public schools, she holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She and her husband, Danny, have two sons who are graduates of Chesterfield schools and a daughter-in-law who is a former Chesterfield teacher. Mrs. Smith is the proud grandmother of a 2-year-old girl. The Smiths are active members of Bon Air Baptist Church.

Elected to the School Board on Nov. 8, 2011, Carrie E. Coyner represents the Bermuda District.
Mrs. Coyner is the founder and owner of RudyCoyner, Attorneys at Law, located in Chesterfield near the courthouse. She practices in the fields of real estate, construction, land use, estate matters and corporate entity structuring. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and U.S. government from the University of Virginia and a juris doctorate from the University of Richmond School of Law.
Mrs. Coyner has served on the Board of Directors of the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Management for the Chester YMCA and numerous committees throughout the county.
Mrs. Coyner and her husband, Matt, have three children; their oldest will enter kindergarten this fall in Chesterfield County Public Schools. The Coyners are active members of Chester United Methodist Church, where they enjoy helping children and their families through various ministry programs. Mrs. Coyner has dedicated time to the Elizabeth Scott Elementary PTA.

Patricia M. Carpenter was elected in November 2007 to represent the Midlothian District. She currently serves as chair of the School Board.
A graduate of Post University in Middlebury, Conn., Ms. Carpenter holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an associate degree in merchandising.
Before being elected to the School Board, Mrs. Carpenter owned Sabai of Virginia, a spa products company. She is a co-founder of a rapidly growing, innovative business that supplies products to spa and therapeutic industries. Mrs. Carpenter was employed for many years in marketing and business management and has worked as a substitute teacher.
A longtime volunteer in Chesterfield, Mrs. Carpenter helped lead the campaign for the 2004 school bond referendum, which gained 87 percent of the vote; co-chaired Homeowners for Quality Schools; and dedicated many hours to the Bettie Weaver Elementary PTA. Mrs. Carpenter has served for the past three years on the board of the MathScience Innovation Center, an advocate of 21st-century math and science programs for the capital region’s K-12 educators and students. She has served on the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium. Mrs. Carpenter currently serves on Chesterfield County’s Budget and Audit Committee and on the Benefits Committee. She is the School Board’s liaison to the Chesterfield Business Council and Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Carpenter and her husband, Dean, have two boys, both attending Chesterfield County Public Schools. They are members of St. Edward’s Catholic Church.

Elected to the School Board on Nov. 7, 2006, David S. Wyman represents the Dale District. He currently serves as vice chair of the School Board.
Mr. Wyman is a senior international financial executive with more than 20 years of experience in high-tech, manufacturing and software environments. He is currently the business manager at Elk Hill Farm Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on helping Virginia’s at-risk youth. From 1997 through 2006, he served as vice president and chief financial officer for multiple divisions of Invensys, a London-based manufacturing holding company with sales of $5 billion. Previously, he worked as a financial manager for Texas Instruments and played professional basketball in Europe.
Mr. Wyman holds a bachelor’s degree in math from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University.
Mr. Wyman and his wife, Stephanie, have two daughters, one attending Chesterfield schools and the other a recent graduate. The Wymans are members of Grove Avenue Baptist Church, where Mr. Wyman teaches Sunday school.
