Advisory committees set meetings for coming year

Advisory committees for Chesterfield County Public Schools focus on specific topics and hold meetings that are open to the public. Here are the areas they focus on and their schedules for the 2014-15 school year:

The Citizens Budget Advisory Committee helps evaluate and allocate resources in alignment with the Design for Excellence 2020 to ensure a high quality, effective and efficient school division. The committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 15, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, Jan. 29 and Feb. 18 in the boardroom of the School Administration Building, 9900 Krause Road. The School Health Advisory Board helps develop health policy for the school division and evaluate school health, health education, school environment and health services. The committee will meet 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 8, Nov. 10, Jan. 12, March 9 and May 11 at the School Administration Building, 9900 Krause Road. Call

The Special Education Advisory Committee seeks to inform and involve parents in special education matters that affect more than 7,000 students with disabilities in Chesterfield County Public Schools. The committee will meet 5-6:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the Chesterfield Room of the Fulghum Center, 4003 Cogbill Road.

The committee will meet 5-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 (Oct. 8 meeting will be at the School Administration Building, 9900 Krause Rd.), Nov. 12, Jan. 14, Feb. 11, March 11, April 15, May 13 and June 10 at the Career and Technical Center @ Hull, 13900 Hull Street Road. Call 594-1732 for details.

The Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee supports career development initiatives. The committee will meet at 8 a.m. on Sept. 18, Nov. 20, Jan. 15, March 19 and May 21 at the Career and Technical Center @ Hull, 13900 Hull Street Road. The committee will also participate in an open house 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in the commons area of the Career and Technical Center @ Courthouse, 10101 Courthouse Road. Call 768-6165 for details.

The Gifted Education Advisory Committee monitors and discusses gifted education program services in relation to state regulations and the School Board-approved Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted.
