October 22, 2015 Chesterfield, Va. – Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chesterfield announced today that they have been awarded three new grants to support their integrative student support services within Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS).

  1. CIS of Chesterfield was awarded a Community Impact grant of $62,500 from the United Way of Greater Richmond to support expanding CIS programming to Falling Creek Middle School.  United Way funds will support adding a full-time CIS site coordinator.  Additional funding for this position and funds for implementing the program will be raised by the CIS of Chesterfield Board of Directors.
  2. CIS of Chesterfield was awarded a $32,500 grant from the Community Foundation Serving Richmond & Central Virginia to support the transition of Chesterfield Community High School to the Carver College and Career Academy.  Community Foundation funds will be used to support a part-time Workplace Coordinator, a position that is working to build multiple school/industry partnerships within each of the four Career Academies within the school:  Construction Trades, Business & Information Technology, Child Development, and Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation.
  3. CIS of Chesterfield also received a $10,000 grant from Capital One Financial Services to fund after-school programming (2 days a week) at Chalkley Elementary School.  Capital One has been a strong CIS of Chesterfield supporter for many years!

Communities In Schools of Chesterfield is a fully accredited, local affiliate of the Communities In Schools National Network.  CIS of Chesterfield was established in the fall of 1993 and currently serves over 4,000 students annually at six CCPS schools:

  • Bellwood Elementary
  • Chalkley Elementary
  • Ettrick Elementary
  • Falling Creek Middle
  • Salem Church Middle
  • Carver College & Career Academy

The secret ingredient of CIS programming is highly qualified site coordinators that work within schools to build relationships with students, families, teachers and administrators.  Services are delivered through these relationships and resources are provided through a network of partners, volunteers and community agencies.

CIS of Chesterfield is non-profit with 501(c)(3) status and is managed by a Board of Directors and CCPS Leadership.
