I wanted to offer heartfelt thanks for an A.W.E.S.O.M.E. first week for our amazing school division!
I visited eight schools on Tuesday, and the great work that all of our employees put into preparing for the arrival of nearly 60,000 students was clear immediately. The buildings were clean, and the classrooms looked spectacular. (The teriyaki chicken with rice lunch at Marguerite Christian Elementary tasted great, too!)
I told my leadership team on Wednesday that this year’s first day of school was the best that I have ever been associated with as a superintendent. There was a positive energy in every building I visited. Staff members in offices, throughout the buildings and in classrooms were all smiles. And, our students looked happy to be back and were engaged immediately in learning opportunities.
I’m so thankful for the teachers who prepared our classrooms for engagement, administrators and office team members who made sure everything was in place, bus drivers who got our students to school safely, food service workers who kept our students nourished, custodians and maintenance team members who had our buildings prepared, and every other staff member who greeted students on Tuesday with welcome arms. Day No. 1 out of 180 was a tremendous success!
I’m also thankful for the parents who entrust their children to us every day. It’s not a decision we take lightly.
It’s easy to see why Chesterfield County Public Schools has the fantastic reputation it does throughout the nation. I’m excited to support our work, and look forward to telling others about the great things we will do together this year.
Thank you for being a part of our #oneCCPS team!
