Matoaca Elementary prekindergarten

Evergreen Elementary will hold a Paws Walk to benefit the Richmond Animal League 9:45-10:30 a.m. May 13. (This was originally scheduled for May 6 but was postponed because of rain.) Two fourth-grade classes will walk as many laps around the bus loop as possible; they have been collecting pledges from their families and community members. A volunteer from the Richmond Animal League visited to explain initiatives to help animals, and the students will soon create posters to encouraging people to adopt animals from the shelter. The Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Center school will hold its annual plant sale 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. May 13 at 6819 Mimms Loop, which is next to the Chesterfield County Museum and Lane B. Ramsey Administration Building. Students have developed life skills as they have grown these plants to sell: ferns ($10), hanging baskets ($10), container flowering plants ($5), vegetables ($2) and herbs ($2). At 19 schools, Chesterfield County Public Schools offers a limited number of prekindergarten spots to provide school-readiness skills to eligible children with the greatest need. Children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 30 and who are zoned for a school that offers prekindergarten can apply. There are no exceptions to age and residency requirements. Families can apply for prekindergarten at Perrymont, 8610 Perrymont Road, between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on this remaining date: May 10. Reams Road Elementary will hold its annual book drive throughout May. All students are invited to donate gently used books. Special Education Advisory Committee
The Special Education Advisory Committee seeks to inform and involve parents in special education matters that affect more than 7,000 students with disabilities in Chesterfield County Public Schools.
