Chesterfield County Public Schools students will participate in Digital Learning Day on Feb. 23, as part of the school division’s efforts to create and highlight innovative instructional and learning practices.
Digital learning is any instructional practice that effectively integrates 21st century technology tools to enhance and strengthen a student’s learning experience. Chesterfield County Public Schools moved toward a blended learning model (combining the best of face-to-face instruction with the use of technology resources) as part of its continued efforts to better engage students in authentic learning opportunities.
“Today’s technologies broaden our ability to teach, extending learning opportunities beyond the classroom’s traditional four walls,” School Board Chair Dr. Javaid Siddiqi said. “Digital Learning Day affords our school division the opportunity to highlight some of the innovative and engaging ways our teachers are integrating technology and challenging students to think in a different manner.”
The school division’s Innovation Days are designed to reinforce the 21st century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and effective communication while enhancing student engagement through relevant, hands-on learning opportunities. School leaders and teachers have been encouraged to integrate 21st century technology teaching-and-learning tools, create project-based learning opportunities, and infuse community service projects in the Innovation Days.
Started in 2012, Digital Learning Day has provided a powerful venue for education leaders to highlight great teaching practice and showcase innovative teachers, leaders and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes. Digital Learning Day promotes the effective use of modern day tools afforded to every other industry to improve the learning experience in K-12 public schools.
