For the fourth consecutive year, Chesterfield County Public Schools’ budget document was recognized with the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).
“Chesterfield County Public Schools is committed to providing a transparent budget document that showcases how we are investing taxpayer funds in public education,” School Board Chair Dr. Javaid Siddiqi said. “We will continue to look for understandable ways to communicate what the operating budget funds and why, understanding that many in our community are interested to learn how they are supporting our students, staff members and schools.”
The Meritorious Budget Award is awarded for excellence in the preparation and issuance of the school division’s Fiscal Year 2018 operating budget. The award promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and enhances school business officials’ skills in development, analyzing and presenting a school system budget. The prestigious award is presented to school districts that meet or exceed the program’s stringent criteria.
“School business officials are responsible for ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, and that the district budget reflects student priorities and needs,” ASBO International Executive Director John Musso said. “The MBA program helps applicants create an accessible, accurate budget that builds trust with their community. This award recognizes districts that have made it clear they want students at the center of their fiscal plan and vision.”
“We’re honored to be recognized by ASBO for a fourth straight year and are appreciative of the many hours of work by our Budget Department that this document represents,” Superintendent Dr. James Lane said. “We always strive to provide a thorough yet easy-to-read document that illustrates our budget process, and this best-practice recognition reaffirms the good work our team continues to do.”
