#SelmaforStudents

Dear Students, Parents, Teachers and Administrators:

In an unprecedented effort, organizations across America are underwriting free admission to the Academy Award-nominated film Selma for students across the country. #SelmaforStudents is designed to expose students to the history associated with the civil rights challenges of the past so that Americans can build a stronger future.

Started in New York during a New Year’s Eve dinner, the movement quickly surpassed expectations. The buzz continued across the country to more than 30 cities including the Richmond area. MEGA Mentors, a local non-profit created to support Chesterfield County students, assisted with local planning. Through partnership with numerous Richmond-area businesses, MEGA Mentors is excited to announce that 2,000 Chesterfield County students now have the opportunity to see Selma for free.

#SelmaforStudents 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 Regal Cinemas Commonwealth Center 20 Theater in Midlothian

The first 2,000 persons Chesterfield County students to sign up by Tuesday, March 10, will attend. Go to mychesterfieldschools.com to learn more and for a link to register online.
Free bus transportation is available from most county high schools, with the exception of Community High School and the two career and technical centers. Parents should drop their children off at 8:30 a.m.; buses will depart at 8:45. Students only need money for concessions. Buses will return at 1 p.m.

Selma is rated PG-13 for disturbing thematic material including violence, a suggestive moment and brief strong language. Parents are strongly cautioned that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.

If you are interested in serving a chaperone and seeing the movie yourself, please sign the parent consent form and include your valid driver’s license number required for background check purposes. Parents who drop off students at the theater or parents of students that are driving must also complete the parent consent form. Please consider joining this historic community event.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best Regards,
