Fine Arts Academy to end with Grand Summer Gala of student work

Work by student artists and musicians will be showcased in a Grand Summer Gala  9-11 a.m. Aug. 1 at James River High School, 3700 James River Road. The event celebrates accomplishments from this summer’s Fine Arts Academy, which began July 9 and was open to students throughout Chesterfield County. About 150 students in grades K-12 participated in classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry, percussion, strings, piano and more. Visual arts will be on display 9-11 a.m. Aug. 1; musical performances will begin at 10 a.m. A highlight will be Rockin’ Out in Orchestra, with orchestra students performing songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Adele and Coldplay.

Summer graduation is Aug. 11

A graduation ceremony for students who completed high school diploma requirements or who earned their GED this summer will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at Cosby High School, 14300 Fox Club Parkway. Students from every Chesterfield high school will participate, wearing caps and gowns in their school’s colors. About 100 students are expected to complete their diploma or GED requirements this summer.
