Marcus J. Newsome, Ed.D.
Welcome to the Chesterfield County Public Schools web site, designed to effectively inform the public about our award-winning school division. Chesterfield is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow, as evidenced by the county’s designation as one of the country’s 100 Best Communities for Young People as recognized by America’s Promise Alliance.
Families continue to make Chesterfield a “first-choice” community in part because of the public school system, named by a national research and relocation firm as one of the top school districts in the nation. Nearly 58,000 students attend 62 schools, making Chesterfield County Public Schools one of the 100 largest districts in the country.
The School Board and our employees are committed to our vision for a public education system that citizens of all ages can “trust in, invest in and benefit from” and a clear mission to ensure that each student acquires the knowledge, skills and core values necessary to achieve personal success and to enrich the community. We are dedicated to providing a quality education for every child by focusing on four priority goals: academic excellence for all children; safe and supportive learning environments; knowledgeable and competent workforce; and community investment in our schools.
Everyone in Chesterfield has a role to play in public education. Teamwork is the best approach because working together, we can meet and even exceed our expectations for school and student success. I am asking parents, guardians and volunteers to join me in creating a school system in which all children will not only become successful learners but also will embrace learning as a joyful, lifelong activity. I encourage you to get involved at a nearby school.
Join a winning team — Chesterfield County Public Schools! Together we can help our children realize their hopes and dreams.

Science, technology, engineering and math were the focus of Chesterfield’s first STEM Fair, which took place at the Science Museum of Virginia. Elementary, middle and high school students competed in STEM Olympics and minute-to-win-it events that required teamwork, problem solving and high-level thinking. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but one picture cannot adequately portray the Fine Arts Festival. That’s why you should watch this brief video.
