Eleven Chesterfield County schools were honored today with 2019 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) awards recognizing advanced learning and achievement.
The awards recognized Virginia’s public schools that exceeded minimum state and federal accountability standards and achieved excellence in education goals established by the Governor and state Board of Education. Eligible schools and school divisions earn one of these three awards based on performance during the previous academic year: the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence, the Board of Education’s Excellence Award and the Board of Education’s Distinguished Achievement Award
Chesterfield County schools receiving the 2019 Board of Education Excellence Award included: Swift Creek Elementary, Watkins Elementary, Winterpock Elementary and Cosby High. A school receives this award for being accredited and for making significant progress toward educational goals such as increasing student achievement and expanding educational opportunities. Only 90 schools in Virginia earned this level of recognition.
Chesterfield County schools receiving the 2019 Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award winners included: Gordon Elementary, Weaver Elementary, Woolridge Elementary, Midlothian Middle, Robious Middle, Tomahawk Creek Middle and Midlothian High. Only 175 schools in Virginia earned this level of recognition.
“Chesterfield County Public Schools prides itself on providing an innovative and relevant education that engages all students and sparks a love of learning,” Superintendent Dr. Merv Daugherty said. “By igniting our students’ passion for learning through authentic and captivating experiences, we will create an infinite learner mindset and develop the supportive relationships needed to propel our students toward success. These awards our staff members’ work to create amazing learning opportunities in remarkable learning environments.”
