Dear Bon Air Families,

We had a great week at Bon Air Elementary!  Please click here to see a video with some exciting highlights from this past week.  Our staff was truly amazing on Friday as they navigated the fun challenge of a day with both schools in our building.  It went really well thanks to everyone’s flexibility and hard work. Thank you to the parents who came to volunteer and helped make the day successful.  We greatly appreciate your help and support! The picture below was taken on Friday, and the rainbow is a great symbol of the teamwork we have between our schools.

Bon Air 5k:  The Bon Air 5k is gearing up for 2020! Check out our race sign-up page to register today: The 5k and 1 mile Fun Run will be held on April 25, 2020. Online registration is open until April 24, 2020. Once you have registered, join our Facebook community!   • Thursday, February 13th:  Dads and Donuts for last names A-L 7:00 AM- 7:25 AM
  • Friday, February 14th:  Dads and Donuts for last names M-Z 7:00 AM- 7:25 AM
  • Friday, February 14th:  Three hour early release: Teacher Professional Development Day; Dismissal is at 11:15.
  • Friday, February 14th:  Report cards go home with students
  • Monday, February 17th:  Staff and Student Holiday- No School
  • Wednesday, February 19th:  Talent Show dress rehearsal from 5:00-6:00 PM
  • Thursday, February 20th:  Talent Show at 6:30 PM
  • Monday, February 24th:  PTA board meeting at 6:30 PM (All are welcome)
  • Thursday, February 27th:  PTA spirit night at Joe’s Inn from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Important updates:   

Soles4Souls:  Click here for more information on a JRHS Student Capstone Project to provide shoes for those in need.  There will be a collection box in the front lobby at BAES where gently used shoes can be donated.

Student placement for next year:  As we approach the end of the first semester and we begin to plan for next year, please see the information below about student placement:

The administration does not accept parental requests for specific teachers; however, every child’s placement is extremely important to us. All staff members who work with a child have input as to the best placement for him/her. The child’s current teacher(s) recommends to us the type of class to which he/she should be assigned based on the child’s achievement, behavior, and other factors. The administration reviews all recommendations and adjusts the class rolls as appropriate, based on student enrollment. If you desire a particular teaching style for your child, you may submit a letter to the principal by March 1st. Although, realistically, no promises can be made in terms of honoring such requests, they will be considered during our placement process. Requests for your child not to be placed with another student, for whatever reason, should be noted in writing to your child’s present classroom teacher and the administration.

Pre-Kindergarten Registration Information:  Chesterfield County Public Schools offers prekindergarten at several elementary schools to provide school readiness skills to eligible children with the greatest need. Children who will be four years old by Sept. 30, 2020 and who live in the school’s attendance zone may apply for prekindergarten.  Please see the information below on where and when to register for the Pre-K class at Bon Air.  

Applications will be taken at Bellwood Elementary School (9536 Dawnshire Road, North Chesterfield VA  23237) on the following dates.

  • Monday, March 23rd (1:00 – 6:00 PM)
  • Tuesday, March 24th (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
  • Wednesday, March 25th (1:00 – 6:00 PM)
  • Thursday, March 26th (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)

Applications will be taken at Falling Creek Elementary School (4800 Hopkins Road, North Chesterfield VA  23234) on the following dates.

  • Monday, March 30st (1:00 – 6:00 PM)
  • Tuesday, March 31st (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
  • Wednesday, April 1st (1:00 – 6:00 PM)
  • Thursday, April 2nd (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)

Middle School Transition Fair:  The Office of Family and Community Engagement is holding a Middle School Transition Fair on February 20, 2020, between 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m at CTC Hull St. This fair is for families navigating into and through the middle school years.  A keynote presentation and breakout sessions will be the format. Dr. David Elena will deliver the keynote based on his experiences as a school principal, administrator, teacher and father and share insights and information into the ever-changing adolescent mind.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. to provide attendees time to visit resource and vendor tables and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a keynote presentation, followed by a choice of two breakout sessions.  Breakout sessions are designed for families of students entering sixth grade and current middle school students; recognizing the social, emotional, and physical changes in students; fostering responsible technology habits and Internet safety; and tips on heading to high school. Including information on leveling, and specialty centers.   Our hopes are to help parents through these transitions by providing them access to information, specialists, and strategies to assist them through these three challenging years.
