Weekly Update – May 17, 2020

Posted on

Dear Bon Air Families,

We miss seeing all of our families!  Thanks again for all of your support through these difficult times.

Below are a few updates:

Please remember that digital access to the learning resources our teachers are providing is available anytime at our Stay at Home website.   Those families that need a paper/pencil version of the work can pick up instructional packets on Tuesday anytime between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Student Item Pick-Up:  This is a reminder that on Wednesday we will have curbside pickup for students’ personal items that remained at school.

In order to ensure the safety of our staff and our families during this process, the following procedures will be used:

  • Pull into the bus loop by the gym (off of McRae Road)

  • Drive along the edge of the bus loop until you get to the gym doors

  • Someone will come to your passenger side car window, and you will need to tell us your child’s name(s) and teacher(s)

  • Stay in your car until you see your child’s bag(s) placed on the table outside the gym

  • You can then exit your car and pick up your child’s bag(s) from the table

  • Please stay more than 6 feet away from anyone else picking up student supplies

In addition to picking up your child’s items, you will also be able to return any items your child has at home from school (Chromebooks should remain at home to continue to be used for distance learning).  If your child has a library book, an item that belongs in the classroom, etc., it can be returned at this time.  There will be a container for library books and a container for classroom items next to the table where student items can be picked up.  If your child has an item from a classroom, please label which teacher the item needs to be returned to and attach the label to the item so we can return it to the correct classroom.

If you are unable to come at your designated time, you may come anytime between 9 AM and 11 AM or between 12 PM and 2 PM; however, we ask that you follow the schedule if at all possible to help the pickup process go smoothly.  Families should arrive at the following times based on the first letter of your last name:

Student Last Names

A, B, C: 9:00-9:30

D, E, F: 9:30-10:00

G, H, I: 10:00-10:30

J, K, L: 10:30-11:00

11:00-12:00- No pickups

M, N, O: 12:00 – 12:30

P, Q, R:  12:30-1:00

S, T, U;  1:00-1:30

V, W, X, Y, Z: 1:30-2:00

We ask that our families please be patient with the pickup process, as there will be many people coming to get their child’s items.  We will get everyone through the pick-up line as quickly as possible, but there may be a wait for item pickup.

Papa John’s Information:  Want a night off from cooking? You can support BAES when you order from Papa John’s using the code “BAES” anytime, BUT between May 18th-24th, we’ll get even MORE BACK, a full 30%, as long as at least 30 orders are placed with our code, so spread the word to neighbors and family members. IMPORTANT: orders must be placed online at papajohns.com and the code (BAES) is valid at any of their 21 Central VA locations. Carryout and delivery are contact free!

CCPS Food & Nutrition Update:  During Covid-19, families may have been impacted financially. Complete an application for free & reduced meals at www.myschoolapps.com.

Information from the Bon Air 5K Committee:

Due to the corona virus situation, we felt it was best to cancel the Bon Air 5K rather than risk the safety and health of our community.  In lieu of this year’s race, we want to celebrate being active on your own.  So we are going the (social) distance and doing 3.1- just for fun!

We challenge you to complete 5K of any physical  activity- walking, biking, skipping, or 3.1 minutes of planking, jumping jacks, downward dog, etc.  Anything goes these days and bonus points for creativity!  Please share your #quarantine5kyourway on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BonAirES5K/)  for the school to enjoy!

Since we missed the school’s second largest fundraising opportunity, we have created a super comfy, “3.1 Just For Fun” tee shirt to support the PTA and remember this crazy time.  Both adult and youth shirts are available for $10 through June 8th.  They will be distributed when it is deemed SAFE! Click here to order a shirt.  Let’s all join in supporting BAES and prove that our eagle pride is also contagious!!!

Grey t-shirt with logo on it.

Thank you again for your continued support.  Please reach out via email if there is anything at all that I can do to help.

Best regards,
