Speech and Drama Classes foster performance and communication skills as well as cooperation and leadership. This class will introduce the student to all aspects of speech and acting on stage; while also helping the student learn about their own voice and role within the arts. In a safe environment, the student can learn public speaking tools as well as acting techniques. Over 300 students participate in the speech and drama program yearly. Many Drama students from Bailey Bridge continue to excel on stage in high school.
Speech and Drama 6 (part of the exploratory wheel):
This course is designed for the very beginner theatre student. The student will begin to get an understanding into the foundations of theatre arts, working as an ensemble, basic playwriting, character development, elements of public speaking, a sense of self on stage, and improvisational techniques.
Speech and Drama 7
This course is designed for the intermediate theatre student. The student will begin to get a deeper understanding into the foundations of theatre arts, playwriting, script analysis, more in-depth characterization, and a more comprehensive study on technical theatre and improvisational techniques.
Speech and Drama 8
This course is designed for the intermediate and advanced theatre student. It is recommended that a student taking this class have some theatre experience. The student will begin to study more advanced concepts of theatre arts through a more comprehensive study of acting, improvisational techniques, as well as learn aspects and format of playwriting, and script analysis. The student will also learn how to properly audition and prepare for a role.
After school activities: There will be a spring main stage play each year. Auditions are held after-school and open to all BBMS students. Students interested in additional Drama fun should listen for announcements about Drama Club, held periodically throughout the year, after school. All BBMS students are welcome to attend.
