Swim Team
Team Overview
The L.C. Bird Varsity Swim Teams are committed to providing student-athletes with a competitive environment focused on improving skills for swimmers at all levels, as well as building character and leadership traits both in and out of the pool.
Swimmers of all levels are welcome on the Bird Swim Teams! We work with swimmers who are learning basic techniques, as well as swimmers with summer league or year round experience. Swimmers and/or parents/guardians with any additional questions should contact Coach Bliley or Coach Robinson. Please know that all swimmers must have current VHSL physical and concussion forms on file in order to participate in the season.
Team Highlights
Varsity swimming is relatively new to Chesterfield County Public Schools. All 10 CCPS schools now offer varsity swimming. We participate in Region 5A in VSHL and have a team to represent the Skyhawks at the annual regional meet.
Bird is a small but competitive team throughout the county. We continue to grow larger each season. The coaches are committed to meeting swimmers at their individual levels and helping them improve on their individual goals throughout the season.
Pre-Season
The season begins the first week of November and runs through the beginning of February. After school conditioning is optional and begins in October.
Season Information
Our first day of practice is typically the Wednesday after Election Day. We practice at Swim RVA (5050 Ridgedale Parkway Richmond VA 23234). We DO NOT provide transportation and encourage carpooling between teammates. Also, all swimmers MUST have a current VHSL physical and concussion forms on file before you are allowed to practice.
Any further practice and meet information will be announced at a later date.
Tryout Requirements/Team Requirements
A current VSHL physical (dated after June 1 of the current year) and concussion forms must be turned into the school or coach prior to being allowed to participate in preseason conditioning and the beginning of the season. No swimmer will be allowed to participate without turning in these forms.
Swimmers must be able to swim at least a 50 freestyle without stopping. (We will help teach any other strokes and all the techniques, if needed.)
