Upcoming college and career opportunities
November is College and Career Readiness Month, but November just isn’t big enough for all the activities in Chesterfield County Public Schools so October also holds opportunities for college and career exploration.
Exploring potential paths to college and career is part of goal 1 of the school system’s strategic plan: All students and staff will embody an infinite learner mindset. Woven throughout each school year are experiences and opportunities to help students explore paths to their future. Here are some upcoming opportunities:
College Application Assistance Program (10 a.m.-noon Nov. 12): Get help with college applications and filling out the FAFSA during events organized by Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield County Public Library and GRASP. These free Saturday sessions for high school seniors and families will take place at the Central Library, 7051 Lucy Corr Blvd. Registration is required for the event. Additional resources are available online.
College Fair (6-8 p.m. Nov. 3): More than 80 college representatives will greet Chesterfield County high school juniors and seniors and their parents. The districtwide college fair will take place at Monacan High, 11501 Smoketree Drive. Families will learn about college applications, scholarships and more. Registration is encouraged but not required.
Work-Based Learning Fair (6-8 p.m. Nov. 9): Job shadowing, internships and mentorships are among the work-based learning opportunities in Chesterfield County Public Schools. Students in grades 6-12and their parents will hear directly from work-based learning students and business partners during a Work-Based Learning Fair at Monacan High, 11501 Smoketree Drive. Families are asked to register in advance.
College and Career Readiness Month (November): Schools explore college and career readiness in a variety of ways, including days when students and teachers dress to represent their college or future career. During the Chesterfield County School Board meeting that starts at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7, officials and staff members are asked to dress to represent a career or college.
Help filling out FAFSA (ongoing): GRASP (Great Aspirations Scholarship Program) provides FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) completion assistance through GRASP advisers working in Chesterfield County high schools.
