Clover Hill High School

Chesterfield County Public Schools

Science Department: The science teachers of CHHS advocate scientific literacy for all. We passionately believe that all students can learn science content and critical thinking skills in order to formulate sound conclusions about the world around us. This involves thinking, reasoning, and applying knowledge and skills to novel situations, not just memorizing facts, data, and formulas to get an answer.

Classroom instruction: Science instruction is centered around an inquiry-based, student-centered approach. Teachers become facilitators who design instruction to provide opportunities for students to use and build on their pre-existing knowledge and skills. Laboratory activities are implemented to deepen understanding, generate questions, and/or challenge preconceptions regarding scientific principles.

Student organizations — Clover Hill offers membership in the Environmental Club as well as the Science National Honor Society. Recently, the school has added a Chemistry Club to provide those students with an interest in chemistry the opportunity to do so outside of a traditional classroom setting

Course offerings include core classes in Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as well as College Board Advanced Placement courses in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Our goal is to provide students with a broad range of science experiences. To further that end, we offer electives such as Oceanography, Anatomy and Physiology, Ecology, and Forensic Science.
