Mr. John Phillips - Principal

The 2020-2021 school year will mark Mr. Phillips’ nineteenth year in education and his second as the proud Principal of Clover Hill High School. He is originally from the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania, a graduate of Millersville University, with a Bachelors of Science in Education. His career as an educator began in Stafford County, Virginia as an English teacher and a coach. After relocating to the Richmond area, Mr. Phillips spent twelve years with Henrico County Public Schools, serving as a teacher, head football coach, assistant principal and associate principal. He resides in Chesterfield with his wife, who is a high school counselor with CCPS, and his two sons. Currently, Mr. Phillips is pursuing an Ed.d in Leadership from VCU.

Mr. Eric Pioch Assistant Principal

Mr. Eric Pioch - Associate Principal

Mr. Pioch originally hails from the state of Michigan where he graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in English, Communications and Theatre Arts; upon completing his degree at EMU, he moved south to Richmond, VA.

Mr. Pioch spent the first 10 years of his educational career as an English teacher at Manchester High School where he taught everything from British Literature to World Literature to Theater to Public Speaking classes. From there, Mr. Pioch went to Monacan High School where he served as Dean of Students for two years. During his tenure at Monacan, he earned his master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Pioch is now starting his third year as an assistant principal at Clover Hill High School and first as Associate Principal.

Mr. Pioch enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and is a fan of all Detroit sports.

Mrs. Shelley Herzing

Mrs. Shelley Herzing - Assistant Principal

Mrs. Herzing graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education and later earned a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University. She taught one year in Pennsylvania, 5 years in Northumberland County Schools, 7 years in Richmond City Public Schools before becoming a Cavalier. Mrs. Herzing began teaching at CHHS in 2000 and began her Administrative duties in 2006. She is currently an Assistant Principal at CHHS. Mrs. Herzing enjoys spending time with her family especially her three young children.

Ms. Cherel Fitzgerald Assistant Principal

Ms. Cherel Fitzgerald - Assistant Principal

Ms. Fitzgerald originally from Fort Washington, MD has begun her second year at Clover Hill High School as an assistant principal however; she has been a leader in education for 20 years. Four years as a business teacher in Prince Georges County Maryland, one year as a business teacher in Petersburg, VA and 15 years in Chesterfield County Public Schools which consist of 8 years as a business teacher, 3 years as a Dean of Students and 4 years as an Assistant Principal. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel/Restaurant and Institutional Management from Virginia State University, MBA in Accounting from Strayer University and an Ed.S from Liberty University in Administration and Supervision. Ms. Fitzgerald is a proud parent of one son.

Erin M. Guthe - Dean of Students

Mrs. Erin M. Guthe – Dean of Students

Erin Guthe joins the Clover Hill community after eleven years as an educator in the English Language Arts classroom. Originally from Knoxville, TN, Erin graduated from UNC Greensboro in 2004 with a degree in Fine and Performing Arts, and pursued her teaching certification, which she earned from Old Dominion University. Erin started her educational career in Hampton City Schools, where she enjoyed serving as Instructional Coach in addition to working with students in the classroom. Upon relocating to Richmond, VA in 2015, Erin taught English at Providence Middle School and also coordinated the department as the English Department Chair. Erin also worked as the summer school program coordinator at Providence Middle School in 2019. She enjoys working with teachers and students and finds joy in building strong relationships based on respect and trust. Erin is currently earning her Masters Degree in Education: Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and will graduate in 2021. Erin lives with her wife in Richmond, and enjoys gardening, playing video games, reading, and spending time with her family.

Mr. Nate Henry Math & Science High School Coordinator

Mr. Nate Henry - Math & Science High School Coordinator

Mr. Henry is a graduate of McDaniel College with a B.A. in History and Old Dominion University with a M.S. in Special Education. Over a span of 22 years, he has taught a wide range of courses from self-contained ED/LD History to AP US History and Historical Research while serving as a football and soccer coach. Prior to assuming the role of the Coordinator for the Math and Science High School at Clover Hill, Mr. Henry taught AP US History and Historical Research within the program. Both Mr. Henry and his wife (Christine) teach in Chesterfield County while raising three active high, middle, and elementary school age sons.

Dr. Kimberly S. Handsome - Special Education / 504 Coordinator

Dr. Handsome has been a leader in education for 15+ years. While working on her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, Minor in Music, from Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia, she taught at a local pre-school and assisted staff in providing inclusive supports for students in need of early intervention services. In 2005, Dr. Handsome began teaching students with disabilities at CHHS. She taught students in all educational settings and with varying disabilities while completing her Master of Teaching in Special Education, from Virginia Commonwealth University. During her first few years of teaching, Dr. Handsome returned to Virginia Commonwealth University and began working on her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Education with a focus on Special Education and Disability Policy. Dr. Handsome has served as the Coordinator for Special Education since 2010. She is a known advocate for students with disabilities and partners with students, families, and staff to ensure all students are able to access education. Her research interests include postsecondary education for students with intellectual disability, transition services and supports, self-determination, and trauma informed care.

Dr. Handsome remains a proud Chesterfield resident with her husband, daughter, son, and too many pets to list.

Mr. Tripp Lawson School Counseling Coordinator

Mr. Tripp Lawson - School Counseling Coordinator

Mr. Lawson is a graduate of Clover Hill High School, class of 1996. After graduating from CHHS Mr. Lawson attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned a BS in Criminal Justice. In 2000, Mr. Lawson joined the Virginia Army National Guard and served until September 2008. During Mr. Lawson’s time in the National Guard he returned to VCU to earn his Master of Education/Counselor Education degree. This is Mr. Lawson’s 15th year as a school counselor in CCPS and his 9th year at CHHS serving as the School Counseling Coordinator. Both Mr. Lawson and his wife (Christine) serve as school counselors in Chesterfield County while raising two happy and healthy children.
