Attendance Notes

PLEASE USE THIS FORM TO SUBMIT A NOTE OF ABSENCE, EARLY DISMISSAL, OR LATE ARRIVAL.

Remember, if students miss a class or multiple classes for ANY REASON this school year, they can log in to Canvas later that same day, access their assignments, and fill out a brief Completion Task form linked to each CHHS teacher’s Canvas homepage. Doing so by 11:59 p.m. on the same day will allow your student to earn attendance credit for that day.

CHHS Attendance Procedure: When a student reaches 5 absences, a robotic-phone message is sent to notify parents. When a student reaches 7-10 absences, an administrator and/or school counselor will hold an attendance meeting with the student and parents to develop an Attendance / Engagement Plan. When a student reaches 11+ absences, the family will be required to meet with a school social worker.

Students who miss 10% of the school year or more are defined as chronically absent by the Virginia Compulsory Attendance Law. Based on a 180 day calendar, students who miss 18 days of school are categorized as chronically absent. Chronically absent students are required to make up “seat time” in the second semester in order to have an opportunity to pass their classes. Please contact your child’s administrator or school counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
