Anthony J. McLaurin, Ed.D. is excited to begin his second year as principal at G.W. Carver Middle School! Dr. McLaurin earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Virginia State University in 2017. He earned a Master’s degree from Virginia State in Education Administration and Supervision and graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Dr. McLaurin has been an educator for fourteen years. He began his administrative career in 2012 as Dean of Students at Thomas Dale High School. He later served as an Assistant Principal in Richmond Public schools and returned to Thomas Dale as an Assistant Principal. Dr. McLaurin and his wife Takeya have three children, A.J., Camren and Noah, all of whom attend Chesterfield County Public Schools. Dr. McLaurin loves to attend live sporting events, spending time with family and perfecting recipes on the barbecue grill in his free time. Dr. McLaurin believes that learning should be fun and his goal is to ensure that teachers and students love coming to Carver Middle everyday.

Dr. Bryan Hicks

Dr. Hicks is excited to be joining the Carver Middle School family!  Dr. Hicks started his education career as a social studies teacher at Thomas Dale High School. While at Thomas Dale, he coached football, basketball, soccer, track, and served as the assistant director of student activities. Prior to joining Carver, Dr. Hicks served as an administrator at Thomas Dale, Matoaca HS, Midlothian MS, and Elizabeth Davis MS.

Dr. Hicks is a Chesterfield County Public Schools graduate (Manchester HS). He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Hampden-Sydney College, his Master of Science in Sports Management/Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from VCU.

Dr. Hicks and his wife, Heidi, have two children and two grandchildren. Dr. Hicks enjoys attending live sporting events, especially at the University of Virginia. When he isn’t at games in Charlottesville, he volunteers as the clock operator for Thomas Dale football and basketball.  Dr. Hicks believes that every student brings value to the school, and it is essential that all students be given the opportunity to reach and exceed their goals.

Jill Miller

Ms. Jill Miller is eager to join the administrative team at Carver Middle School as an Assistant Principal. She graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelors in Mathematics and Master of Arts in Teaching, as well as the University of Virginia with a Masters in Leadership and Supervision. She’s worked for Chesterfield County her entire career, teaching middle school math for 9 years and acting as an administrator for two. Her passion is building relationships in order to create supportive fan clubs for each of our students. Ms. Miller is a huge college basketball fan, rooting for UNC and UVA. She also enjoys traveling, exploring the James River, and trying new restaurants. Ms. Miller lives by the quote, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Melissa Wyche
Dean of Students

Mrs. Wyche is entering her 16th year in education and her 6th year with Chesterfield County, and is excited to start her career in administration at Carver Middle School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia State University and a Master’s degree in Education Leadership and Supervision from Strayer University. Mrs. Wyche enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family. She believes every day should be used to strive for excellence.
