Taking Band provides the opportunity for students to learn a band instrument (brass, woodwind, percussion) and to appreciate the relationships among music, other arts, and society. Band students will perform twice each school year, once in the late fall and again in the early spring.
Guitar classes at Carver provide students with instruction on the guitar starting with the basics. Students will learn how to read musical notation and perform in the classical style. This will give students the foundation to play any style of guitar music. There will be two performances throughout the year.
Involvement in Orchestra provides the opportunity for students to learn an orchestra instrument (violin, viola, cello, or string bass) and to appreciate the relationships among music, other arts, and society. Orchestra students will perform twice each school year, once in the late fall and again in the early spring.
My name is Ms. Barrus and I am excited to teach chorus at Carver Middle School. I have been teaching for 9 years and received my Music Education with a vocal concentration from Longwood University. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
The students choosing chorus as their elective will learn proper vocal technique as well as other musical skills such as: music theory, composition, conducting, and sight singing! We will have 2 main performances at Carver- one in the Winter and in the Spring. Other performance dates and times will be located on the calendar.
