Mission

The Crestwood education team of students, staff, parents and school community believes that all students can learn and accepts each child for his or her individual differences. We are dedicated to our mission of helping each child reach his or her potential, promoting positive self-esteem, and developing values of citizenship and lifelong learning within a positive environment.

School History

Opening in 1962 in the Crestwood Farms subdivision off of Jahnke and Buford Roads in Chesterfield County, VA, Crestwood will celebrate its 56th year of educating our fine students this fall. We have a wonderfully diverse student population, an amazing staff of highly qualified educators, and a great community of families supporting and working with us in educating their children.

Arrival / Dismissal Procedures

BUS RULES AND REGULATIONS

Students should report to the designated bus stop 5 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival of the bus and be ready to board. Bus drivers cannot wait for students. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult. As in the classroom, good conduct is expected at the bus stop and while on the bus.

The following behaviors will result in a discipline referral to the school administration:

  • Not following directions the first time they are given
  • Not keeping hands, feet, and objects to self
  • Throwing any object
  • Cursing, swearing, loud talking, or teasing
  • Littering or damaging the bus
  • Eating or drinking while on the bus
  • Not keeping objects and parts of body inside the bus
  • Getting out of seat while bus is in motion
  • Pushing, shoving, or fighting
  • Bringing cell phones or any handheld electronic music or games on the bus. These objects may be confiscated by an administrator.
  • Violating the Chesterfield County Public Schools Standards of Student Conduct. Action taken will comply with conduct code.

BUS DRILLS

To comply with state law, emergency evacuation drills on school buses are required to be conducted at least twice a year, once each semester.

Should it become necessary to open schools late or close schools early because of inclement weather, electrical power failure, or for any other reason, announcements will be carried on local radio and television. In addition, a ParentLink phone call may be made to students’ primary telephone numbers. Parents should make emergency closing child care arrangements at the beginning of the school year so that students know what to do and where to go if such arrangements become necessary.

Please do not call the school. This ties up our phones and prevents the school from being notified that school is closing early.

Should it be necessary for a child to be picked up by a parent rather than ride the bus home, a note is required. Send a note to your child’s teacher indicating the need to pick up your child that day. Without a note, your child must be placed on his or her bus. Students will not be called from the bus loop once classes have been dismissed, as this creates safety issues for all students. When picking up your child, please do not park in the loop in front of the school. Be prepared to show identification when picking up a child.

Safety for our children influences all of our decisions at Crestwood Elementary. The front circular entrance to the school will be open for student drop-off. Please follow the guidelines below if you choose to take advantage of this opportunity:

  • Cars may not pass in the loop; a child could be injured! Children are to exit cars on the sidewalk, not the drive.
  • Adult supervision will be present daily.
  • If you need to come into the school, you must park in the parking lot. Please do not park in the circular drive. You will be asked to move to a parking lot, as this keeps traffic from moving through the circle.

If everyone follows these simple guidelines, all of our children will move safely from car to school.

Day care vans are required to arrive on time for the beginning of the school day and for dismissal.  They will be stationed at the bus loop in back of the school.

Parents who wish to have children walk or ride a bicycle to school must write a note to the principal.  If the child begins to walk to school, he or she should continue to do this throughout the school year.  Parents are urged to stress safety to any child who is a walker or rider.  Bicycles may not be ridden on the sidewalks and are to be parked only in the assigned area.
