Title I is one of multiple federal programs which was first authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. The program provides funds to school divisions across the country. Title I puts federal money into schools where there is a high percentage of students who are eligible to receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. The funds are used to supplement – not replace – what is provided for all other schools.
There are 22 schools in Chesterfield County that receive Title I funds; 21 elementary schools and 1 middle school.
