WHAT: The Falling Creek Middle boys mentoring program, Young Gentlemen of the Creek, will hold their annual necktie ceremony on Nov. 29.  There will be a motivational speaker and then the Young Gentlemen will be able to shop from the hundreds of neckties that have been donated.  This year, neckties have been donated by Virginia Union University President Dr. Hakim Lucas and Virginia Commonwealth University President Dr. Michael Rao.  In previous years, neckties have been donated by former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Mark Warner, Sen. Tim Kaine, Richmond City Mayor Levar Stoney, along with many other notable male figures in the Richmond region.

The Young Gentlemen of the Creek was formed by a dedicated group of teachers at Falling Creek Middle who wanted to start a young boys mentoring program. The purpose of this group is for boys in sixth-eighth grades to participate in a youth empowerment, mentoring and academic support group.

WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 29, 2:30-4:00 p.m.

WHERE: Falling Creek Middle, 4724 Hopkins Road

RSVP: Contact Shawn Smith at [email protected] if you plan to attend.
