Chesterfield County Public Schools stocks epinephrine auto-injectors (EpiPens® or other brand or generic auto-injectors) in every school clinic, as required by Virginia law. These epinephrine auto-injectors are for students who have not been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy but who have a life-threatening reaction during the school day. Stock epinephrine auto-injectors are not available for field trips. At least two staff members at every school are trained to administer the emergency medication in the event of a life-threatening allergic reaction.
Parents of students who have been diagnosed with life-threatening allergies are still expected to provide their child’s prescribed medication to the school, along with health-related information and forms signed by a medical provider.
