The school system’s health team conducts the following screenings of students within 60 administrative days of the beginning of school and notifies parents in writing of any concerns so that they may follow up with their health-care providers:
- Vision and hearing screening for kindergarten and grades 3, 7 and 10
- Scoliosis screening for individual students, if requested by parent
Parents of students with an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Plan for vision or hearing disabilities or those who object to screening on religious grounds may opt out of screening for their student in these grades by contacting the school nurse at their child’s school before Sept. 6, 2021.
In the 2021-22 school year, in order to screen students who were unable to be screened during the 2020-2021 school year, Chesterfield County Public Schools is partnering with Conexus to provide vision screenings for students in prekindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, third grade, fourth grade, seventh grade, eighth grade, 10th grade and 11th grade. Your child is not required to participate in this free program. If you do not want your child to receive this free service, contact your school nurse to opt out.
