School safety is a priority. Chesterfield County Public Schools maintains a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment so students and staff members feel secure, comfortable and supported and can achieve their best.
The school system works with the Chesterfield County Police Department to assign school resource officers to each secondary school and child safety officers to each elementary school, while also assigning school security officers to each high school and career and technical center. Schools have written plans to prevent and respond to emergencies, and there are trained safety teams in every school. Tornado, fire, lockdown and other emergency drills are practiced on a regular basis.
A school emergency may require a lockdown, shelter in place, evacuation or other actions. Please do not call or come to the school during an emergency, as it will tie up phone lines and endanger you and others. SchoolMessenger, the school division’s website (mychesterfieldschools.com), Facebook and Twitter will be used to communicate when it is safe to release students and how parents will be reunited with their children.
