School visitors

To keep students safe, the school division will check the names of school visitors, including volunteers, against the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. The sex offender registry is online at

When visitors arrive at a school, they must enter through the main entrance after communicating with office staff via the intercom and show photo identification (driver’s license, military ID, passport or other identification issued by a government agency), which will be scanned into a computer to be checked against the sex offender database and school-specific alert databases. Only the visitor’s name, photo and date of birth will be stored in the computer; no other personal information will be collected.

The visitor check-in system and other security measures help ensure the safety of students and staff members. School Board policies 6141 and 6142 detail expectations for visitors and public conduct on school property and Policy 6133 relates to sex offenders. They can be found online at under the School Board tab in the School Board policies section.
