Save time on Kindergarten Registration Day by completing paperwork early

Chesterfield County Public Schools will hold Kindergarten Registration Day for the Class of 2033 on April 16 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Families of incoming kindergarten students are strongly encouraged to preregister, completing required paperwork online for free and saving time on the actual Kindergarten Registration Day. Parents can learn more about preregistration on the school division’s website:  https://mychesterfieldschools.com/family-and-community-engagement/preparing-for-school/student-registration/kindergarten-registration/. (Families with a child currently enrolled in a Chesterfield County Public Schools prekindergarten program do not need to complete the online preregistration process. However, those families will need to bring their child and the necessary paperwork listed on the school division’s website to Kindergarten Registration Day on April 16.

Every Chesterfield County elementary school will register incoming kindergarten students on April 16. Parents are asked to take their children to the elementary school they are zoned to attend. (Registration for students scheduled to attend Crestwood Elementary will be held at Stony Point Church, located at 2330 Buford Road.) To find the school a student is zoned to attend, parents may go online to https://mychesterfieldschools.com/schools/find-my-school/.

Kindergarten is a full-day program offered in every Chesterfield County elementary school. A child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2020, to attend kindergarten.

Even if they are preregistered online, children should come with their parents on April 16 for a brief evaluation. Parents must bring the child’s certified original birth certificate or a school age affidavit in accordance with state law. To attend Chesterfield County Public Schools, children must reside in Chesterfield County with a parent or legal guardian, so parents must also bring their photo ID and one of these proofs of residency to the registration:

  • lease for at least one year or deed of a residence in Chesterfield County
  • contract or lease free of contingencies to occupy a Chesterfield County residence within two months of the date of enrollment
  • resident manager’s letter on company letterhead stating that residence is a corporate residence in Chesterfield County
  • weekly receipts for temporary residence in a hotel or motel for up to 60 days (requires renewal or evidence of more permanent residency within 60 days of enrollment)
  • Parents submitting a “lives with” form must bring the person they live with to registration. That person must provide a lease, deed or one of the other proofs of Chesterfield County residency, and the parent of the incoming kindergartner must provide two supporting documents showing his or her name and correct address.

Before the first day of school on Sept. 8 (July 27 for year-round schools), parents must supply medical records showing their child has had a physical examination within the past 12 months and listing the dates of each state-required immunization.
