Preschool (PreK)

Harrowgate Elementary has one preschool classroom.  The classroom is a Head Start class, which is funded by the federal government.  Our program is designed to provide eligible children with the readiness skills that will prepare them for kindergarten while respecting the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of each child.  This program provides a comprehensive, individualized, developmentally appropriate preschool education to children using a research based curriculum. The class has between 16-18 children, a licensed elementary teacher and a full time assistant.  Preschool students ride the regular school bus and attend during the regular school day.

To be eligible for preschool at Harrowgate, children must be four years old by September 30th, show a certified birth certificate, and reside in the Harrowgate attendance zone.  Placement in the program is based on educational needs or income-eligible families through the result of a screening process.  Registration is done through the county’s PreK department. They can be reached at 804-706-6061.
