Our focus on the joy of reading is combined with an emphasis on creativity, curiosity, and inquiry. Come see all that we have to offer!

The mission of Hopkins Road Elementary Library and CCPS Libraries is to empower students and staff through the direction and guidance of certified school librarians to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users/creators of information in support of student achievement in a global environment.

Hopkins Road Elementary School is a Title I school in Chesterfield County, Virginia. The library is the place where stories abound, books are shared, and the joy of reading is central. The library is also focused on creativity, curiosity and inquiry as the students move into the 21st century.

In the library as well as throughout the school, excellence is our common goal! The library serves students Pre-K through Grade 5 and all special education classes in the school.

Our students visit the library weekly on a fixed schedule. Kindergarteners and First Graders with clear records will check out one book at a time. Second through Fifth Graders with clear records will be able to check out two books.

If your child cannot find a library book that needs to be returned, please send us a note or email about it so we know you are aware of the situation.

We encourage our students to keep their library books in the large OUTSIDE pocket of their backpack. This way they will always have the book available to return on library day or to read at home. This also helps in preventing the juice box/water bottle mishaps that happen with many library books. Thanks for working with your student to help keep library materials safe, clean, and dry!

We do not charge overdue fines for library materials, but we do ask that our families return items in a timely manner so that other students and teachers can use them. We do charge the current replacement cost for any library materials that are lost or damaged, and we appreciate your working with your child in assuming responsibility for these items. This policy supports the CCPS core values of responsibility and accountability.

Our most common losses are books that have gotten wet, or books that have been written or colored in with markers, crayons, or pens. The average cost of a new library-bound book is approximately $20 to $25. Thank you for your cooperation in teaching your child to be respectful of materials that belong to everyone in our school.
