First graders at every elementary school in Chesterfield County Public Schools are learning about the American flag during 2023 visits by veterans group the 40 & 8. Students received small flags, coloring books and more after veterans displayed earlier versions of the U.S. flag while discussing the Pledge of Allegiance and flag etiquette. Representatives from the 40 & 8 also encouraged students to thank veterans in their families and military personnel for their service.
