There are zero bus driver vacancies in Chesterfield County Public Schools!

Posted on

Great news: There are zero bus driver vacancies in Chesterfield County Public Schools! The largest school system in central Virginia is 100% staffed with bus drivers.

The school system has hired more than 100 new drivers since the beginning of the school year, which means that 499 school bus drivers are now transporting Chesterfield County students to and from school.

In a video message (youtu.be/SGtb-BvoZFA), Superintendent Merv Daugherty thanks the people who contributed to this success:

  • Bus drivers and transportation staff members, including the training team who helped hundreds of driver candidates earn or verify their commercial driver’s license.
  • Families who drove students at the beginning of the school year when the school system asked for help with transportation.
  • Teachers and school leaders who worked hard and made the best of a tough situation for months.
  • The school system’s Human Resources team for their work to fill vacant positions.
  • Chesterfield County officials who worked with the school system to increase starting bus driver pay by $3 to $20.21.

“We’re better together,” Dr. Daugherty said. “We can solve anything as long as we talk about it, we look at the problem, and we come together for a solution.”
