Language Arts

Reading and writing are fundamental skills that are used in everyday life. Our program enables students to improve these skills by focusing on a balanced literacy approach, so students receive equal instruction in reading as well as writing. Various styles of writing will be explored, including narrative, persuasive, expository, descriptive, and research. In addition, students will learn the mechanics and grammar usage appropriate for their writing. Vocabulary study and self-selected reading are also integrated into our English classes. As students learn strategies to help them read and comprehend, they will be exposed to multiple forms of literature and styles of writing.

Eighth Grade: They are busy preparing for the 8th Grade Writing SOL Test. Our 8th graders will take this test the first week in March.

Sixth Grade: Some students received college materials after they completed a writing activity requesting information.

Reading: All students should be reading, reading, reading!!!
