Dear Parents of Monarch Underclassmen (Grades 9-11)

Here are your reminders for the upcoming week:

Parents of all students:

  • There will be no school on Monday, May 31, 2021 in our observance of Memorial Day.
  •  Our end of year awards ceremonies will live stream at 6:00 p.m. on the following dates:
    • June 8: Junior Awards Ceremony
    • June 9: Sophomore Awards Ceremony
    • June 11: Freshmen Awards Ceremony
  • We are proud to announce that we have selected a new Head Football Coach, Mr. Recharde Goodwyn. Mr. Goodwyn has coaching experience both in VA and FL. He has several players that he has helped play at the college and professional (NFL) level. He will meet with current and interested players on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
  •  VCU Health Sports Medicine will be hosting physicals on June 14th, 15th, and 17th. Check-in will begin at 3pm. The cost of each physical is $20 and only cash will be accepted. All money collected will be donated back to Chesterfield County Public High Schools Sports Medicine budgets to help purchase new supplies for the upcoming sports seasons. 
    • Date: Monday June 14, 2021 
    • Time: 3:00pm-5:30pm. Please arrive no later than 5:00 p.m. 
    • Location: Manchester High School, 12601 Bailey Bridge Rd, Midlothian, VA 23112 Schools to Attend: Manchester, Cosby, Clover Hill, Meadowbrook
    •  Cost: $20 cash only, no checks will be accepted  
  • As shared in our morning announcements, we want to allow students the opportunity to express their condolences to Mr. Goodman’s family. You your student may bring a card to school to give to any teacher to place in the card box that we will deliver to his family.
  • If your student is currently not passing one or more classes, please be sure to communicate with their teachers regarding supports and other potential opportunities to pass. Other opportunities to pass a class that they are currently failing include:
    • Earn a final grade of 60 or higher for the school year
    •  Content Recovery assignments given by their teachers.
    • Receive a score of 350 on their SOLs (400 is preferred).
    •  Show reasonable growth on an assessment given by their teacher.
      •  NWEA (MAP) Test (used in math and English)
      •  ALEKS (used in math only)
      •  Mastery Connect (used in multiple classes)
      •  Teacher-created assessment that covers all of the material taught in that class (used in multiple classes)
      •  Teacher-created portfolios that allow students to show what they have learned this school year (used in multiple classes)
  • The last day of school has been changed to June 17 as we will celebrate Juneteenth on June 18th. Please see the updated underclassmen exam schedule and our remaining AP/SOL schedule here:

     . Exams must be taken on their assigned date and time.  Students must have administrative approval to take an exam on the make-up date of June 17.

  •  Next school year (2021-2022), students will have the option of attending school face-to-face, or completely virtual through CCPSOnline. Selecting the CCPSOnline option will not give students access to MBK teachers. Specialized courses, including specialty center courses, will not be available through this option. Parents of current juniors:

  • All rising seniors are now required to have had two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine prior to entering the 12th grade (1st dose prior to 7th grade and 2nd dose prior to 12th grade).
  • Senior Portraits for the class of 2022 will be June 30th and July 1st. More information will be forthcoming.

Seniors Message 6/1/2021

Good afternoon Parents of Monarch Seniors:

  • Please be sure that your senior completes both, mandatory senior surveys.  
  • If you missed our senior awards or white coat ceremony videos, we have included the links below:
  •  The final list of students for each ceremony has been shared with your senior via Canvas. Please call the main office if you have any questions.
  • As you might have seen in last week’s Friday Family Update: 
    • The Governor announced that Virginia will ease all distancing and capacity restrictions on Friday, May 28 which means that we are now able to allow each graduate to bring up to 8 guests to graduation! Each grad will still receive four physical tickets but now each ticket can admit two guests. A few items to keep in mind:
    • Both guests must enter the stadium together.
    • Each graduate will still receive two parking passes. All guests’ vehicles must have a parking pass. 
    • While outside on school property, students, teachers, staff members and visitors who are fully vaccinated 14 days prior to the ceremony can remove their masks.
    • Please keep your belongings to a minimum when entering the stadium for graduation and refrain from bringing in bags when possible.
    •  We can’t wait to celebrate the class of 2021!
  • We have received graduation tickets and parking passes. Each senior will now be allowed to have 8 guests (2 per ticket) and 2 parking passes. Pickup dates and information are included below. All fees must be paid in order to receive graduation tickets and parking passes.

Important Senior Dates

  • June 1: Graduation tickets and parking pass distribution from noon-4:00 p.m. by the tennis courts.
  • June 2: 
    • Graduation tickets and parking pass distribution from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the main entrance.
    • Caps and Gowns can be purchased from 2:00 p.m. -5:00 pm. at door 1.  The cost is $80. Please contact Mrs. Richeson If you have any questions.
  •  June 3:
    • Cords and Awards Pick Up: 10:00 a.m. – noon and 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at door 1
    • Senior Picnic: 12:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m.
  • June 4: Graduation tickets and parking pass distribution from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 pm. at the main entrance
  • June 7: Graduation (Diplomas will be given out after each ceremony in the main gym).  Please have your senior review this graduation expectation video: https://spark.adobe.com/video/RLY7m3paAY8z
  • If your student is currently failing one or more classes, there is an opportunity for them pass for the year via one of the following pathways:
    • Earn a final grade of 60 or higher for the school year
