Welcome to the Center for Spanish Immersion

Our goal is to open the eyes and minds of the students to other important cultures. We want our students to learn Spanish well and use it in the community to help form a sense of unity in our society.

Spanish Immersion Faculty

Mrs. McIntire
Mrs. McIntire is the Spanish Immersion Program Director. She is a graduate of Manchester High School and attended the University of Virginia where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a Master’s degree in Teaching. Mrs. McIntire has studied abroad in Mexico and Spain and loves learning about cultural traditions from other hispanic countries. She teaches AP Spanish Literature & Culture, Spanish Humanities 1 and Spanish Humanities 2.

Mrs. McKenzie
Mrs. Laura McKenzie teaches Spanish immersion math (Geometry and Algebra 2) and AP Spanish Language and culture. She loves Spanish and enjoys the fun and challenge of working with Spanish Immersion students. She believes that the investment of time and energy required to use Spanish through learning is one that gives students lifelong opportunities in both their careers and everyday experiences.

Mrs. Booher
Ms. Booher is a Spanish Immersion teacher. She attended J.R. Tucker’s Spanish Immersion program and had the opportunity to travel abroad to Argentina and Costa Rica while in the program. She later attended Va Tech where she got her undergraduate degree in Spanish and Master’s degree in Education. Ms. Booher understands the importance of learning a second language in an immersed environment. Every day she strives to share her love of the language and culture with her students. She currently teaches Spanish Immersion PE and Spanish Immersion II.

Ms. Landa
Mrs. Lisa Landa is a Spanish Immersion teacher.
She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she earned Bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and International Studies. She studied abroad in Spain at the Universidad de Valladolid. Later in her career Mrs. Landa earned a Master’s degree in education from Averett University. Mrs. Landa enjoys enhancing her students ́ experience of the Spanish Language, culture, and history through her Spanish Cinema class.

Mrs. Landa ́s students also explore the practical
and professional uses of Spanish in today’s world in her Spanish for the Professions class.

Mrs. Byrnes
Mrs. Byrnes has been teaching Spanish at Manchester since 2002. She is a graduate of Manchester High School and attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. Mrs. Byrnes spent time in Honduras as a missionary and studied abroad in Spain. She loves meeting new people, visiting new places, and spending time outdoors. She teaches Spanish Immersion I, Spanish I and II, and sponsors the Spanish Club as well as the National Spanish Honors Society.
