Special Education Mission Statement
At Monacan High School, our mission is to empower students that are eligible for special education to become active members of society based on their individual strengths and abilities. Our dedicated staff is committed to promote the diverse academic, emotional, and social needs of all of our students in a positive learning environment. Through high-quality and differentiated instruction, as well as collaboration with parents, students, schools, and the community, students will focus on their positive attributes and recognize their individual strengths and achievements to promote their future success.
Course Descriptions for Direct/Supplemental Instruction within the Special Education Setting
Study Skills: Course objectives focus on improving time management, comprehension, memory, note taking, study and test taking skills.
Coping Skills: This course is designed to teach thinking skills, problem solving techniques and social skills. Skills/Competency areas covered include: adult relations, peer relationships, school and classroom expectations, pre-employment skills, employment skills/work expectations, individual living and transition, self-advocacy, personal development and problem solving.
