Karen Dubiel - Principal

I am thrilled to become a member of the Moseley family and serve the children of this fine community as principal! It is humbling to have the opportunity to select a caring and dedicated staff that will continually strive to provide the best learning opportunities for our students. Together, as a community, we will develop a school of excellence with a foundation in research-based instructional strategies, social emotional learning, and equitable practices that truly provide a pathway for each child to succeed.

I graduated from James Madison University in 2000 with a B.A. in Sociology, Early Childhood Education and Dance. (Go DUKES!) My career in education began over 21 years ago with seven years of experience teaching in first, second and fifth grades in Hanover County and Chesterfield County. During my tenure as a classroom teacher, I earned my M.Ed. in reading education from the University of Virginia and this led me to serve the children of Colonial Heights in five schools as the division K-12 instructional specialist-reading coach for six years. With the dream of returning to one elementary school, I completed my Ed.S. in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia and served as an assistant principal in Hanover County. My journey led me home to Chesterfield County where I’ve had the honor of leading the Wolfpack as principal of Winterpock Elementary for the past four years. Now, I’m excited to build relationships with new families and strengthen relationships with current families as we unite as one school family to build new traditions at Moseley Elementary!

I am a native of Hampton and currently reside in Midlothian with my husband, Jeff, daughter, Mollee, and son, Will. You will find me on the soccer field as a volunteer coach for FC Richmond, at OrangeTheory Fitness completing a benchmark challenge or researching for my doctoral studies at Virginia Tech! My family loves spending time together at the beach and at Hershey Park and hope to take a trip to Fenway Park to cheer on the Boston Red Sox very soon!

In the coming months, I look forward to working with our parents, students, and staff to create a dynamic community of learners!  Feel free to follow me on Twitter at @PrincipalDubiel for updates. Thank you so much for your partnership and support!
