Fat Bear week
The Adapted Curriculum students at Gates Elementary recently learned about voting and read a news article about the Fat Bear competition at Katmai National Park in Alaska. This year’s Fat Bear Week took place October 5-11, and people all over the country could vote for the bear in Katmai that they thought was the fattest. One bear would be named the Fat Bear Champion of 2022! The students really enjoyed this topic so they decided to open up the voting to the whole school. Mrs. Dolan, Mrs. Ms. Campbell, Ms. Klinginsmith, and Mrs. Giles’ students chose the 4 bears they thought were the fattest, helped create a slideshow to share with the school, created posters for voting, tallied the votes, and then created a video to announce the winner! Gates students voted on the bear they thought was the fattest by putting a sticker on the poster of the bear they thought was the fattest. The winner of The Gates Fat Bear Contest was Otis, Bear #480! Thank you to the Gates Adapted Curriculum teachers and students for sharing this fun activity with the entire school!
