This is my tenth year serving as the principal of the Reams School community. I began in the fall of 2012 after being the assistant principal of Harrowgate Elementary for seven years. Prior to joining Chesterfield in 2005, I lived in Chesapeake, VA where I served as an assistant principal and taught K, 1st, and 3rd grades over the course of 16 years. I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The College of William and Mary in 1989 and 1994 respectively.
I believe all children can succeed with strong instruction and parent and community support. I love seeing the smiles on our students’ faces and celebrating their successes with them. In my spare time, I enjoy being on the water, reading, and spending time with my family. But, you might catch me pulling weeds on our school grounds!
I can’t wait to see all of the successes our students, families, and staff enjoy this year as we work to make things happen unhindered!
I am excited to join the Reams family as your new Associate Principal! I have over 22 years of experience in education during which I served as the assistant principal at A.M. Davis Elementary, taught first and third grade at Providence Elementary, taught in a preschool and taught and led at the University of Miami. My family and I have called Chesterfield County home for over 23 years. Our 3 children attended several different Chesterfield County Public Schools and moved on to Virginia Tech – making us diehard Hokies. When we are not cheering on their football team or managing a house full of rescue animals, my husband and I enjoy hiking, spending time at the beach and chasing after our toddler grandson.
Each of my experiences has reinforced my belief that every student is deserving of an education that provides rigorous and relevant learning experiences, includes culturally responsive and social emotional teaching and support, and builds a strong home-school relationship.
I am looking forward to walking this journey with our students, families and staff as a Reams Ram!
I am super excited to join the Rams family as the new Dean of Students of Reams Elementary. Education has been my passion since I was a little boy, and this year marks my eighth year in education. I am new to Chesterfield County Public Schools and previously worked at the middle and high school levels in Henrico County and Petersburg City Public Schools. In 2020, I won teacher of the year and was a finalist at the county level.
I am a strong advocate for lifelong learning, which is reflected in my educational background. I graduated from VCU with a bachelor’s in history and a minor in math. I attended Mary Baldwin College for my teaching license. Through inspiration from my school leaders, I went back to school for a master’s in educational leadership at the University of Richmond, graduating in 2019. I am currently enrolled back at VCU in their doctorate program in educational leadership.
When I am not at school or doing homework, I enjoy training in martial arts. I hold rank in Taekwondo, Brazilian Jujitsu, and a second-degree Black belt in Judo, and I coach VCU’s judo team. I love cooking for my friends and family and trying new restaurants around town. I watch a bunch of movies and tv shows; Star Wars is my all-time favorite. One Punch Man or Kakashi is my anime spirit character.
Our role as educators is to inspire students through our experiences, and to create lifelong learners; every success and failure is part of our journey of education. As B.B King said, “The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.” I am excited to meet our students, families and for the new school year and celebrate our journey of education this year!
