Bellwood Elementary School, a National Title I Distinguished School, has been selected as a winner of the Virginia Board of Education’s 2019 Highest Achievement Award.
Bellwood was one of 52 schools in Virginia to earn the honor, which is part of the Board of Education’s new Exemplar Performance School Awards. The Exemplar Performance School recognition program is aligned with the Virginia Board of Education’s revised school accreditation standards. The Exemplar Performance School program replaces the Virginia Index of Performance recognition program. Eleven Chesterfield County schools earned VIP awards last month.
“Bellwood Elementary’s success is built on a strong foundation of an amazing school staff focused on helping all students learn and achieve at the highest levels and caring for the social and emotional needs of each child,” said Bermuda District School Board member Carrie Coyner, who represents the school. “They continue to live by the motto, Every Child; Every Chance; Every Day. Their data-based approach to instruction fused with innovative ideas like year-round schooling, Lunch Date with the Future and after-school programs allow all students to receive continuous support and encouragement.”
According to the Virginia Department of Education, a Virginia school earns the Highest Achievement Award if it is accredited and meets these benchmarks
“Chesterfield County Public Schools and Bellwood Elementary pride ourselves on providing amazing learning experiences in remarkable learning environments,” Superintendent Dr. Merv Daugherty said. “By igniting students’ passion for learning through authentic and captivating experiences, Bellwood Elementary is creating an infinite learner mindset and developing supportive relationships needed to propel students toward success.”
