The goal of the Social Studies Department at Tomahawk Creek is to create well informed citizens, who actively participate in a democratic society. The department strives to develop an appreciation in their students for the world around them and of the progression of the American story and the freedoms we enjoy as United States citizens. Through the study of history and government, past events and decisions are examined critically and assessed according to their importance for the present and future. The social studies teachers encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and a commitment to human dignity.
A study of the United States history and government is the focus in middle school. In sixth grade, students will study American history to 1877. In seventh grade, the focus is on American history from 1877 to the present. Eighth grade students complete their study of the United States by examining the structure and function of the United States government and its economy
