Tylea Owens

Hello Wolves! As the new Winterpock Elementary School principal, I am honored to lead such an amazing school and staff. Winterpock maintains high expectations for students and staff, and we will work together to hold ourselves accountable to a high standard of excellence.

I became the principal of Winterpock Elementary School after serving in Fairfax County Public Schools for over nineteen years in various positions to include assistant principal, instructional coach, special education teacher, and instructional assistant.  For four years, I have been the assistant principal at Shrevewood Elementary School. I earned my BBA from Howard University and my MEd from George Mason University. Through my learning experiences at UVA, I acquired my Administration & Supervision certification. I have facilitated learning and implemented the Reading and Math Workshop models across Fairfax County Public Schools. I have experience in supporting, promoting, and enhancing multiple programs: such as Center Based Gifted and Special Education. In my previous experience, I have worked to infuse gifted curriculum in all classrooms, which led to increased learning for all students.

I am a New Jersey native with strong Virginia roots. I love football and enjoy a good “Friday Night Lights.” My husband is a Chesterfield native and we enjoy spending time with our families and traveling. On a Saturday morning, you may spot me at a farmers’ market or volunteering in the community.

As the principal of Winterpock, I am here to celebrate our accomplishments and achievements with our families and staff. We will work in partnership to successfully support our Wolfpack. My door is always open as communication is encouraged. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me on (804)763-5051.

Hi Wolfpack! I am so thankful that I am able to continue to be a part of the administrative team as one of the assistant principals here at Winterpock. Prior to being in an administrative position, I taught at Winterpock in both 5th grade CBG and 4th grade. I also taught 4th and 5th grade in Richmond City and Chesterfield County for 10 years before staying home with my girls for seven years. I am originally from Long Island, NY and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Buffalo State College. After teaching for several years, I earned my Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from VCU.

I’ve been married to my husband, Wayne, for 15 years. My identical twin daughters, Alyssa and Amanda, are in 9th grade. Most of our free time is spent volunteering at the many after-school activities our daughters are involved in. I do carve out time every day to read though. There is nothing better than getting caught up in a good book! I also love Disney and it’s my family’s number one vacation spot.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at [email protected] or 763-5051 if there is anything I can help with. I am really looking forward to working with the students, staff and families of Winterpock again. It’s going to be a great year!

Assistant Principal

Hi Wolves! I am so thankful to continue my journey at Winterpock for the 2021-2022 school year. Everyday, I enjoy greeting your children as they get off the bus, seeing their smiles as I visit classrooms, having conversations over lunch, and waving goodbye as you pick them up at the end of the day. My first three years at Winterpock was an absolute joy and I’m blessed to continue serving this community as a member of the pack!

Before becoming your Assistant Principal, I served as the Dean of Students. Prior to my time at Winterpock, I spent sixteen years teaching in Chesterfield elementary schools. For two years, I served as the Title I reading teacher at Chalkley Elementary, where I also taught for ten years. Most recently, I taught 3rd and 5th grades at Robious Elementary.

I am a proud graduate of Chesterfield County Public Schools. I earned my Bachelor of Science in English at Radford University and my Master’s of Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University. This past year, I completed my Master’s of Administration and Supervision at The University of Virginia!

Did I hear Wahoowa?! In my free time, I enjoy watching and attending UVA basketball and football games. My family loves to travel to watch and support our Hoos! When I am not in Charlottesville catching a game, you will find me spending time with my family and friends. My niece and nephew have my whole heart, well, the part that isn’t consumed with my sweet dog Parker. He is a 17 year old Lhasa Apso and 8 little pounds of fun. My favorite hobby is antique shopping and refurbishing old furniture when I find time. Every piece has a story and I love bringing it back to life.

I look forward to another amazing year and continuing to build relationships with all members of the Winterpock community! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if there is anything I can help you with.

Hi Wolfpack,

I am honored for the opportunity to be a part of the Winterpock family and serve as the Dean of Students for this upcoming school year. Before entering this leadership role I had 8 years of teaching experience in Chesterfield County as a 1st-grade teacher, 2nd-grade teacher, and a Title 1 reading teacher at Falling Creek Elementary School. I obtained a Master’s Degree in Literacy and Culture from Longwood University where I completed my endorsement in Educational Leadership. I have also received my endorsement as a reading specialist and currently hold a certification as a National Board Certified teacher. I am excited to build positive relationships with the students and families as I work with the administration team to impact student success in academics as well as their social and emotional health.

Besides the title of Dean of Students, the most important title that I hold is the title of “Mom”. My husband and I have 2 amazing and inquisitive children at home who are the love of our lives. I am a proud graduate of Chesterfield County Public Schools and I anticipate the moment when my own two children obtain their education in this wonderful county. I enjoy listening to music, dancing, going for walks, reading books, and trying new hobbies. I love interior design and being creative. I have been known on a few occasions to randomly rearrange furniture, add furniture and decorative pieces, and paint walls when I have free time at home.

I am looking forward to collaborating with the Winterpock students, families, and community to continue the tradition of excellence and teamwork.  If you need anything, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 804-763-5051. I am anticipating an outstanding year with the entire Wolfpack family.
